Witnesses to the marriage were Peter Thompson and Rosanna McCoy. Arthur was brought up in Cotton by his grand parents. Margaret Skuffham has a letter from John Scuffins of Dublin dated February 1997 regarding his grand father, Arthur Scuffins. "My mother remembers him as a very handsome man, very straight and honourable, very artistic (it's in the family), liked a pint, tell a joke and sing a song or two (that';s in the family too). He turned catholic when he married and was quite devout in thet respect - never missing a mass on Sundays. He was very fond of mother who he called Peggy and he never lost his English accent."
